A weekly series revisited the Pennsylvania communities through which Gen. John Forbes passed on his 1758 expedition to capture what is now Pittsburgh's Point.

As Pittsburgh celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, the Post-Gazette will publish stories every other Sunday drawn from accounts in the region's newspapers and periodicals of the era. The stories will offer snapshots at critical -- and sometimes comical -- junctures over the past two-and-a-half centuries.
