It's an event you practically can smell coming:

The Bagna Calda Contest of the Festa Italiana di Vandergrift.

Just one part of this big Aug. 15 festival at Kennedy Park, the contest is open to anyone who can bring to the booth there, before noon, their take on bagna calda (or bagna cauda), or "hot bath" -- a dip (for raw vegetables and bread) of olive oil and or butter, anchovies, and lots and lots of garlic.

You must enter by Aug. 9; to get an entry form, visit festaitaliana.us. Or just call Andretta or Kathi at 724-265-4603. At least go to the website to enjoy the long list of festival food.
