Now that the Olympics and its giant inflatable squirrel have exited stage left, it's back to regular TV, and how. March is the new September, with dozens of premieres and season premieres scheduled for the next few weeks.
The best new drama series of the spring season is "Justified," arriving March 16 on FX. Timothy Olyphant ("Deadwood") stars as Deputy Marshal Raylan Givens, who has to confront his past when a misstep gets him assigned back to his home state of Kentucky. The Givens character was created by Elmore Leonard, and "Justified," from Graham Yost of "Boomtown" fame, is funny, action-packed, sometimes touching and almost never predictable.
Fox offers a new comedy, "Sons of Tucson," beginning March 14. It stars Tyler Labine ("Reaper") as a small-time con man who agrees to pose as the father of three scheming boys.
If you subscribe to HBO, set aside 10 Sunday nights beginning March 14 for "The Pacific," a riveting miniseries from Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, who follow up "Band of Brothers" with a companion piece following young Marines through jungle warfare in the Pacific during World War II.
The other big documentary project on the horizon is "Life," making its debut March 21 on the Discovery Channel. The epic follow-up to "Planet Earth" promises an inside look at animals and plants as we've never seen them before, all in dazzling HD.
