West students swing into musicals season

It's high school musical season, and West schools have a full schedule of performances for nearly each weekend through May.

Here are this year's West musicals (in chronological order), which started last weekend with Western Beaver's performance of "Once Upon a Mattress:"

• Ambridge Area, "Grease," at 7:30 p.m. today, Friday and Sunday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. For ticket information, call 724-266-4915.

• Center Area (Central Valley), "Grease," at 7 p.m. today, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets, which are $7 for adults and $6 for students, will be sold from 1 to 3:30 p.m. daily in Room B210.

• Blackhawk, "Anything Goes," 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for senior citizens and students.

• Chartiers Valley, "Seussical," 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through March 13 in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $8.

• New Brighton, "Fame," March 11-13.

• Beaver County Christian School, "Oliver," March 18-20.

• Carlynton, "The Wedding Singer," March 18-21.

• Moon, "Footloose," March 18-21.

• Riverside, "Beauty and the Beast," March 18-21.

• Robinson Township Christian, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," March 18-20.

• Rochester, "Oklahoma," March 18-20.

• Beaver Area, "Carnival," March 19-21.

• Beaver Falls, "Cinderella," March 19-21.

• Hopewell, "On the Town," March 19-21.

• South Side Beaver, "Starmites," March 26-28.

• Freedom Area, "Beauty and the Beast," March 26-28.

• West Allegheny, "big, the musical," March 26-27. (Note: shows will be in Burgettstown Area High School because of construction). Tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for students and Gold Card members, will be sold in the temporary high school office from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, 1 to 2:30 p.m. March 14, and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 16 and 23.

• Langley, "Cinderella," April 29-30, May 1.

• Lincoln Park Performing Arts, "Bye Bye Birdie," May 14-16, 21-23.

The 16th annual Henry Mancini Awards for Butler, Lawrence and Beaver counties is 7 p.m. May 12 at Metheny Fieldhouse, Geneva College, Beaver Falls.

The 20th annual Gene Kelly Awards for Allegheny County high schools is at 7:30 p.m. May 29 at the Benedum Center, Downtown.
