Making history of their own, despite the snowiest month on record, were the guests -- many single and searching -- who came to the 12th annual History Uncorked "Black and Gold Celebration" Friday night at the Heinz History Center. All floors of the History Center were set up for guests to roam, but it was the fifth anniversary of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum that had them celebrating. With no long program of speeches and tributes, the gathering attracted a youthful group looking for unfettered fun and maybe a few silent auction items.
The VIP reception began at 6 p.m. on the fourth floor and offered a chance to mingle with the mighty and celebrate Pittsburgh's illustrious athletic past. Among the stars were former Steelers Gerry Mullins and Mike Wagner, former Penguins GM Craig Patrick, former Penguins player Warren Young, former Pirates pitcher Grant Jackson, as well as sportscaster Ellis Cannon. All the champions were sporting major bling, wearing their Super Bowl, Stanley Cup and World Series rings.
In a league of their own were event chair Shelly Ann Hoyt and her committee including Jared Sadowski, Aaron Tainter, Shona Baillie, Meredith Benedict, Colleen Coll, Victoria Berdnik, Nicole Peffer, Mark Burnett, April Evans, Megan Kuniansky, Emily Chiodo, Pam Golubski and Cara Lindberg.
The Ian Arthurs Band entertained on the main floor and DJ Max worked the fifth floor, while massages were offered in between on the third floor. Perfect for staying limber during a long night of dancing and dazzling dates and potential mates.
