'The September Issue'

3 stars = Good
Ratings explained
Dishy documentary about Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her team as they put together the September 2007 issue, which weighed more than four pounds and sold 13 million copies. It is stylishly and intimately shot and does what an excellent documentary should do -- it takes you there

'The Damned United'

2 stars = Mediocre
Ratings explained
Set in 1960s and '70s England, this movie tells the confrontational and darkly humorous story of Brian Clough's (Michael Sheen) doomed 44-day tenure as manager of the reigning champions of English football Leeds United. It wants to be another version of "This Sporting Life," the 1963 gritty, down-and-out romance of a rugby player, but it doesn't rise above its specific time and place to equal that movie.

'The Box'

1 star = Awful
Ratings explained
The short story "Button, Button" by Richard Matheson inspired this movie that asks: What if someone gave you a box containing a button that, if pushed, would bring you a million dollars but spell the death of a stranger? Cameron Diaz and James Marsden star.

'Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant'

1 1/2 stars = Bad
