Kevin Eubanks plans to part ways with Jay Leno. But why does he want to quit now? Is it because of the ratings struggle that left Conan O'Brien out of a job and killed Leno's image?
Eubanks has been with Leno since 1992 and has led the band -- first "The Tonight Show" band and then the Primetime Band when Jay moved to the short-lived 10 p.m. show -- since 1995.
Although the jazz guitarist plans to return with Leno to "The Tonight Show" on March 1, he ultimately wants to leave the series. "Kevin has expressed interest in pursuing personal touring and recording opportunities," an NBC source told Inside TV.
McQueen left note
Fashion designer Alexander McQueen hanged himself in his London apartment last week after leaving a note nearby, a British coroner's official told an inquest Wednesday.
The contents of the note were not released by the coroner's office, which is charged with formally identifying the circumstances of the designer's death.
Days before his body was found Thursday, McQueen had left several messages on the social networking site Twitter revealing his grief at the death of his mother days earlier.
Coroner's officer Lynda Martindill said the 40-year-old McQueen had died from asphyxiation and hanging. Full details of the autopsy will be available in a few months.
Known for his dramatic statement pieces and impeccable tailoring, McQueen dressed celebrities from Cameron Diaz to Lady Gaga and influenced a generation of designers.
Dying Captain called the shots
The TV crew for "Deadliest Catch" was there "the entire time" for Capt. Phil Harris' final days, from when he suffered a stroke on the Cornelia Marie to his near-recovery in the hospital before his death Feb. 9, an official from the popular show told EW.
The Harris family will decide whether any of the footage will make it to air, but according to "Catch" producer Thom Beers, Capt. Phil told the cameraman to keep rolling while he was on his death bed because "we need a great finish" to the show.
Beers said everyone was surprised when Harris awoke from a medically induced coma on Feb. 2 following emergency surgery. But when he did, he snapped right back into Capt. Phil mode.
"When he came out, he was trying to talk," Beers recalled. "He couldn't, but he was motioning with his hand to my producer and cameraman. We said we want to give you your space and get out, and he wrote on a piece of paper. It said, 'No, we need a great finish to this story.' "
Soap villian to retire
So long, Adam Chandler! The Emmy-winning David Canary has announced he'll retire from ABC's "All My Children" at the end of April. The actor, who joined the soap in 1983, won five daytime Emmys for playing Adam Chandler and his timid twin, Stuart. ABC said fans should look forward to a "scandalous" end to his marriage to Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with one of his former wives before Canary departs the show this spring. Fortunately, Canary promises to make occasional appearances in the future.
"My career on 'All My Children' has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment," Canary said in a statement. "Viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas, and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler clan."
TLC, Jon Gosselin settle
TLC and Jon Gosselin have settled their respective lawsuits against each other, TMZ.com reports.
TLC sued Gosselin claiming he violated their contract by talking smack about the show and appearing on rival shows for pay.
Gosselin countersued TLC, claiming the network caused him to suffer harm to his "reputation."
Terms of the settlement are confidential.
Munch will return next week.
