Snowboarding event set Saturday
Wednesday, November 19, 2008

A Premature Jibulation, an invitation for snowboarders to ride over, under or on anything that doesn't move, will be held Saturday afternoon at Seven Springs.

The free event, sponsored by Rome snowboards and the resort, will begin at noon on the lower section of Wagner, an intermediate slope within easy viewing distance of the Foggy Goggle Lounge. Registration will be from 9 a.m.-noon. Prizes include a Rome snowboard, bindings, outerwear and more.

"It will be judged in an open jam format with no age or sex classes," said Joel Rerko, the resort's action sports director. "Everyone will battle it out for the prizes together. The features will be a variety of snowboarding jibs -- rails, boxes, wall rides -- for every level of riding. The more snow we get, the more variety of features."

As of last night, the resort had received 8 inches of natural snow and added several more inches of the machine-made variety. Although the resort's slopes and trails aren't open for the season, they will be as soon as conditions permit, said Dick Barron, director of ski operations.

Rome will provide free hot dogs and "a product toss" for all competitors and will premier its video "No Correct Way." The event is for snowboarders only, but skiers will be able to use the features after the competition.
