Ruth DeBar, a 1994 graduate who has a doctorate in education, recently was appointed assistant professor at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
Dr. DeBar is a member of the Department of Language, Literacy and Special Populations specializing in special education. She received her doctorate Aug. 24 from Ohio State University.
She is the daughter of Margaret Warner and Donald DeBar, of Scott.
Supt. Anthony Skender reported Aug. 26 that the district is implementing a $172,000 Classrooms For The Future grant to equip eight high school classrooms in math, science, social studies and English with 25 laptops each.
There will be some laptops designed specifically for teachers, too. The rooms also will have printers, scanners and digital cameras.
Classrooms For the Future is an effort to integrate technology into education and provide training and support for teachers.
Mr. Skender reported recent testing confirmed a mold problem discovered during the 2007-08 school year at the primary school has been resolved.
"I'm happy to report that there's more mold outside [the school] than inside," Mr. Skender said.
The Little Green Machine band will sponsor its 28th Festival of Bands at 7 p.m. Saturday at the high school stadium.
Among the performers will be the Robert Morris University Jam Blues Band and high school bands from Canon-McMillan, Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Riverview, Charleroi, Schenley, Fort Cherry, and South Fayette.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
Due to construction and limited parking on the high school and middle school campus, parent breakfast meetings have been rescheduled to these times and days: junior parents, 6 p.m. Tuesday; senior parents, 7 p.m. Tuesday; sophomore parents, 6 p.m. Sept. 11; freshman parents, 7 p.m. Sept. 11.
All meetings will be in the high school auditorium.

The site offers a seven-day history of their child's food purchases. To take advantage of this service, parents must enroll online and enter the identification number of their child's school, 15126 for the high school, 15126A for the middle school, 15071 for Donaldson Elementary, 15071A for McKee Elementary, and 15126B for Wilson Elementary.
