CHURCH ACTIVITIES

Cranberry -- Oak Hill Alliance Church, 2782 Rochester Road, offers a new "relaxed fit" one-hour worship service at 5:30 p.m. Saturdays, beginning Saturday. DONATIONS

Areawide -- North Hills Community Outreach is accepting donations of new and gently worn winter coats to be distributed to families in need. Only clean coats can be accepted. ENTERTAINMENT

Butler -- Subscription ticket plans are now available for Butler County Symphony Orchestra's six-concert 60th season, beginning Oct. 11 with "Hometown Gems." FESTIVALS

Zelienople -- Harmony Lodge No. 429 Free and Accepted Masons will hold its annual ox roast from noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow in Zelienople Community Park, East Beaver Street. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 11 and under. Takeout available. Proceeds will benefit the lodge.

FOR CHILDREN

Butler County -- Lifesteps will offer free child development screenings for children from birth to 5 years from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Harmony United Presbyterian Church, Route 8, Harrisville; from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at First Baptist Church, South Washington Street, Evans City; from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 8 at Dutilh United Methodist Church, Dutilh Road, Cranberry; and from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 26 at Lifesteps' Early Education Center, inside Veterans Affairs Building 69, 325 New Castle Road, Butler. The screening looks at the child's development in the areas of playing, talking, seeing, hearing, moving and thinking. GOLF OUTINGS

Butler -- The Northern Allegheny Lions Club and North Allegheny Kiwanis Club are co-sponsors of a nine-hole scramble evening golf tournament Sept. 13 at the Conley's Golf Course, Route 5. Registration is at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and shotgun start at 8 p.m. Cost is $100 per golfer and includes a grand buffet dinner, refreshments, beer, business card drawings, contest awards and a night golf kit. Hampton -- La Roche College, McCandless, will hold a golf outing Sept. 22 at Wildwood Golf Club, 2195 Sample Road. LIBRARIES

Cranberry -- Ted Cramer, member of the Wildcats Regiment Band, will model a Union soldier's uniform and bring a restored tuba during the Role of the Brass Band During the Civil War program from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cranberry Public Library, 2525 Rochester Road. A representative from Soldiers and Sailors National Military Museum will display Civil War artifacts, and a Kids Day will feature games, crafts and movies, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Zelienople -- Zelienople Area Public Library, 227 S. High St., is holding registration for fall story hour for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds. Children must be age 3 by Sept. 1 and potty trained. Parents have a choice of 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. Tuesdays, or 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Fee is $2 per child. Sessions begin the week of Sept. 8. Call 724-452-9330.

The library will hold a series of three workshops for writers from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 and 17. Local author Carol Hamilton will speak on writing skills, what editors look for, publication criteria and more. Registration required.

Franklin Park -- Tobacco Free Allegheny will hold a free education forum about The Pennsylvania Clean Indoor Air Act (Act 17 of 2008), designed for business owners, human resource managers or anyone responsible for implementing the new law in a workplace. VOLUNTEERS

Areawide -- Volunteer mentors, or savings coaches, are needed to provide one-on-one financial counseling and guidance to North Hills Community Outreach's Family Savings Account savers. This opportunity is for retired professionals or individuals with a few hours a month to help someone in need accomplish an important goal. Volunteers should have experience in finance, and in home purchase, home repair and improvements, car purchase, small business start-up and post-secondary education. Training, which is required, will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the agency's Millvale satellite, 223 North Ave. Lunch provided.
