Why: It's Labor Day weekend, and this beautiful 16,725-acre park offers a zillion activities: camping, picnicking, swimming, boating, sailing, fishing, biking, windsurfing, horseback riding, hiking, etc. Lake Arthur has two public beaches for swimming: Pleasant Valley Beach on the South Shore and Lakeview Beach on the North Shore. Plus a refurbished paved 7-mile bike trail around the lake (bike rental on North Shore Drive open 10 a.m.-7 p.m., 724-368-9011); and a 6-mile loop for mountain biking. There are 10 boat launches on Lake Arthur, and you can rent sailboats, rowboats, canoes, kayaks, motorboats and pontoon boats at the Crescent Bay Area (boat rental number: 724-368-9955).
