Canton woman sentenced to prison for shaking baby
Thursday, August 28, 2008

A woman from Washington County will spend up to five years in state prison following her conviction for shaking her infant son, causing permanent brain damage.

Washington County Common Pleas Judge Paul Pozonsky on Tuesday sentenced Jennifer Lynn Proctor, 24, of Canton, to spend between one and five years in prison. A jury in June convicted Ms. Proctor of endangering the welfare of a child, but acquitted her of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Prosecutors said Ms. Proctor shook her then-3-week-old son, Wyatt Miller, in July 2007, causing severe hemorrhaging in his brain. Family members said the child was left blind in one eye, cannot use an arm and a leg and had to undergo medical procedures to drain fluid from his brain.
