Teachers have been added to fourth and fifth grade in Wilson Elementary School in Findlay.

School directors voted Aug. 20 to hire an additional fifth-grade teacher, and Superintendent John DiSanti said one teacher will move from McKee Elementary in North Fayette, where enrollment has decreased, to Wilson Elementary, to teach fourth grade.

Nancy Volk, of Findlay, had organized a parent write-in campaign to add more teachers, after class sizes topped 25 last year and parents felt that each teacher had too many students.

The district also hired a second school psychologist, Hillary Mangis, at a salary of $47,225. The new position will be funded by federal money, the superintendent said.

And, former Dean of Students Christopher Shattuck was appointed high school assistant principal.

• The district is working with North Fayette to erect a sign at the bottom of the Donaldson Elementary School driveway, district Business Manager Jerry Wessel said. The sign would direct people to both the school and the township's community park being built adjacent to the school.

• School officials are planning to use $60,000 in grant money to improve the Donaldson Elementary School baseball field. The school board discussed building bleachers using funds from the state Department of Community and Economic Development, including $50,000 to the school district and $10,000 to the baseball boosters.

• North Fayette Police Chief Jeffrey Falconer has suggested a second access to the middle and high school campus on West Allegheny Road.

He said traffic problems in the nearby Five Points intersection are directly related to the location of the schools. He said a second driveway could help alleviate traffic problems and allow better access for emergency vehicles.

The township is planning to construct a traffic circle to ease congestion and reduce accidents at the five-way intersection of West Allegheny Road, Bateman Road, Route 30 and two legs of Steubenville Pike.

• Top administrators in West Allegheny School District will receive a salary increase of 3.2 percent for the 2008-09 school year. New salaries will be: Superintendent John DiSanti, $134,427; Assistant Superintendents Christine Assetta and William Englert, $108,101 each; and high school Principal Dan Smith, $101,276.
