Negotiations are continuing between the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and Duquesne Education Association on a wage reopener in the teachers' contract.
But, the union last week authorized a strike vote that would allow them to stop working with 48 hours notice.
A bargaining session was held Tuesday, said William Addy, director of human resources for the AIU, which is managing the district this year. No settlement was reached, but the 49 teachers are continuing to work under the previous contract.
Pennsylvania State Education Association representative Butch Santicola said the Tuesday session was not fruitful and that the union is waiting to hear from the AIU about future sessions.
"It has to be relatively quickly for this to work out," Mr. Santicola said. School started on Monday in the district, which serves about 462 students in kindergarten through grade 8.
