CHURCH ACTIVITIES

Bethel Park -- Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2999 Bethel Church Road, will present Dave Ramsey's 13-week money management course, Financial Peace University, beginning from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 5. Mt. Lebanon -- Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3319 West Liberty Ave., presents a free Summer Celebrity Speakers Series program, Faith for Today, at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in Asbury Center. The Rev. Kimberly Greway and members of The Nyadire Connection, a Pittsburgh-based group with ties to Zimbabwe, will talk about their two summer mission trips to Africa. For more, call 412-531-7131.

DANCES

West Mifflin -- The annual Hangar Dance of the Keystone Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at Allegheny County Airport corporate air hangar, Lebanon Church Road. Attendees must be over 21; 1940s dress is optional. Entertainment will be provided by The Beaver Bop Cats, a Glenn Miller-style band. Catered dinner, 6:30 p.m. Cost is a $30 per person, and advance ticket purchase is recommended, with payment due by Sept. 10. FUNDRAISERS

Bethel Park -- The annual St. Thomas More and Prescription Center Plus 5K run and 2-mile walk will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 13 at South Park Fairgrounds. Registration is $15 before Sept. 6 and $20 afterward. Cost is $50 for a family of 4 by Sept. 6. Each additional family member is $10. Procceds will benefit St. Thomas More Center for Family Life and Education. Call 412-835-4281.

Pleasant Hills -- Hoss's Steak & Sea House, 530 E. Bruceton Road, will donate 20 percent of each diner's check Sept. 4 to the Gerard Theberger Scholarship Fund. Mr. Theberger was a 2002 Brentwood High School graduate who died of bone cancer in 2007. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating Brentwood senior. Call 412-551-7895 to register.

LIBRARIES

Bethel Park -- Bethel Park Public Library, 5100 W. Library Ave., will begin a 10-week walking program at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the children's playground parking lot in South Park. The first 25 walkers will receive a pedometer and a t-shirt.

Mt. Lebanon -- Mt. Lebanon Public Library, 16 Castle Shannon Blvd., will present a program for parents and caregivers about back-to-school tips for students at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

• A 3-session monthly program on practical and affordable solutions for home energy will begin at 1 p.m. Sept. 6.

PETS

West Homestead -- Animal Friends Last Splash of Summer, a canine pool party, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 6 at Sandcastle Water Park. There will be games, raffles, auctions, a dog bathing suit contest and a "kiddie" pool for dogs 35-pounds or less. Dogs must be at least 4 months old and be current on inoculations. Admission is $20 per dog. Humans admitted free. Proceeds benefit Animal Friends. Call 412-847-7035.

RECREATION

Bethel Park -- St. Valentine School, 2710 Ohio St., will have a Music & Rib Fest from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday. There will be music, games and baked goods. A raffle will offer 2 sets of tickets to a Pittsburgh Steelers game. For information, call 412-973-0150.

Elrama -- The annual community picnic will be held from 1 to 11 p.m. Sunday at the Elrama Fire Co. grounds. A polka band will perform from 2 to 6 p.m. and a country western band from 7 to 11 p.m. There will be food, refreshments and games. Admission is free.

RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES

Peters -- Peters Creek Presbyterian Church, 250 Brookwood Road, will hold Slime Time Fall Fest at 9:45 a.m. Sept. 7 to kick-off Sunday school. Classes will begin Sept. 14.

The church will resume regular worship hours Sept. 6-7. A contemporary service will begin at 6 p.m. Saturdays. Sunday morning services will begin at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

VOLUNTEERS

Mt. Lebanon -- Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council is seeking volunteers and will offer a workshop at 6 p.m. Sept. 8, 10, 15 and 18 in Mt. Lebanon Public Library, 16 Castle Shannon Blvd., for those who wish to tutor English as a Second Language.
