Turnpike from Irwin to New Stanton to close tonight
Friday, August 22, 2008

The mainline of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in the eastbound direction only from the Irwin to New Stanton interchanges from midnight tonight until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Workers will use the time to lift and set concrete beams for a new Glenn Fox Road overpass near the New Stanton-Hempfield line.

Traffic will be shifted off the turnpike at Irwin, then sent east on Route 30 and the Greensburg Bypass (Toll 66) in order to exit at New Stanton or to return to the mainline.

The turnpike closed the mainline in the westbound direction last Saturday night for work at the same site, part of a long-term widening project.

Meanwhile, officials announced that the new Route 136/Greensburg Road overpass at milepost 70.4 in Hempfield will be opened by late afternoon today. The old bridge was closed Jan. 28, causing about 4,000 vehicles a day to detour.
