Business owners, residents and borough officials in Brentwood are working to stir up interest in some September golf, barbecue, and football to help raise money for the borough stadium and park.
At the Brentwood council meeting held last week, resident Charlie Johnson announced plans for a golf outing to raise money for renovation projects in Brentwood Park.
Residents and borough officials have complained recently that the condition of the stadium and surrounding park have deteriorated and need substantial renovation.
The golf outing will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 12 at the Seven Springs golf course in Elizabeth.
The cost of the fundraising event is $80 per individual, or $300 for a foursome. This fee includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, attendance at a post-golf barbeque at the Brentwood Fire Hall and tickets to the high school football game that night. Prizes will also be given out. Golfers are limited to 144 total.
Those who want to attend only the barbecue and football game can pay $60.
The committee is inviting local businesses to sponsor a golf hole for $200. Flags advertising the businesses will be put in each hole, and displayed in the stadium later at the Spartans football game.
Costs may rise after Sept. 5.
Earlier this year, a committee was formed to help raise funds to renovate the stadium and Brentwood Park. Committee members include a combination of council members, school board members, residents, business owners and Brentwood alumni.
Brentwood Park encompasses a sports stadium, a track, baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a skate park, a recently constructed practice field, a pool and green areas.
The stadium is used by sports organizations and the school district. The school district leases the stadium from the borough for about $40,000 annually.
Estimates for total renovations are $6 million to $8 million. The renovations would likely be done in phases, borough officials have said.
Those who want to attend the golf outing should contact Frank Cappetta at 412-901-7293 or Charlie Johnson at 412-996-7285.
