The Steel Valley Firefighters Association is sponsoring a Public Safety Day Saturday at the Waterfront shopping complex near First Commonwealth Bank from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fire trucks and equipment will be on display, fire rescue information will be available and vehicle rescue demonstrations will take place. Allegheny County Emergency Management equipment also will be on display and child safety information will be available.
In addition, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center will have a health trailer at the event and will be offering a variety of health screenings including bone density tests, blood sugar tests, blood pressure readings and blood oxygen levels.
The Steel Valley Firefighters Associations is made up of fire departments from West Homestead, Homestead, Munhall, West Mifflin, Whitaker, Duquesne, Braddock, Rankin, Baldwin Borough and Pleasant Hills. Also a member of the association is the Munhall Area Pre-hospital Services, the ambulance service for Munhall, Homestead and West Homestead.
GAI Consultants' 50th anniversary celebration will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at the company's offices in the Waterfront.
GAI is marking a half century of engineering and environmental services.
On the guest list are Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato, Pittsburgh Mayor Like Ravenstahl, Pittsburgh City Council President Doug Shields, Homestead Mayor Betty Esper, West Homestead Mayor John Dindak, Munhall mayor Raymond Bodnar and State Representative Dan Frankel.
Held in unique conjunction with Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary, GAI's event will reflect a '50s theme with activities including carnival games, vintage music, traditional diner food and a classic car show.

Community College of Allegheny County's Child and Family Studies program has been awarded a $98,050 training contract to provide training and degree programs for early childhood practitioners.
The contract is from the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania Early Learning Keys to Quality -- the administrative organization for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare -- and the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning.
The contract will enable CCAC to offer four nine-credit Child Development Associate programs, with one offered through each of the college's four campuses.
CCAC is one of a limited number of post-secondary educational institutions in Western Pennsylvania awarded funding to offer this training.
