Beaver plant sued over girl's health problems
Wednesday, July 23, 2008

The family of a little girl who asked Santa for a wig last year is suing FirstEnergy Generation Corp., saying the company's plant in Beaver County spewed pollution that caused the girl to lose her hair and develop other health problems.

The Bruce Mansfield plant in Shippingport is targeted by environmental activists who also sued last year, saying the coal-fired plant continues to violate state pollution standards.

The lawsuit says the girl, who was born in 2003, played in her grandparents' yard about a mile from the plant while dangerous emissions were present. They claim she suffers from thallium poisoning and other problems.

A FirstEnergy spokesman says the company hasn't had time to fully review the lawsuit.
